Three quick hits to improve your website’s performance

Imagine how much easier it would be for your business to attract customers if your website worked better for you so you don’t have to?

There’s are lots of quick hits that everyone can do to improve the performance of your website to make this a reality and help you jump up google rankings.

It can often be difficult to know where to start which is why we have put together some easy fixes you can do yourself and help familiarise yourself with the workings of your website.

1. Write a focused and descriptive title tag for every page.

Each of your pages should be focused on a single topic with its own keyword, for us that would that would be ‘social media’, ‘search engine optimisation, ‘website building’ etc.

Once you have this keyword it your should make sure this is in your title tag – this is the most important place for your search traffic because this shows up in the search results.

We recommend:

Including the focus keyword towards the beginning – and right at the beginning if possible.

Target just one keyword or phrase per page.

Write your title in a natural way that is friendly to the user and not word spam.

Keep your tags short and focused.

Mention a benefit even if it’s just telling people what the page is about.

The more compelling you can make your title tag the more likely people will click through to your page

2. Create compelling, click-worthy meta descriptions for your pages.

Description Tags should include the most important information from your page. Making this your call to action will encourage people to click through to your website from the search engine results pages.

We recommend:

Keeping your meta description to about 160 characters so the full description appears in search results. Your meta descriptions are an important call to action inviting people to click on YOUR page instead of the other options shown to them so it’s certainly worth spending some time on this.

3. Add relevant links between your pages to tie related content together.

If you have a blog on your website as well as your service pages, categories, products and other content, the chances are that many of the articles complement one another or touch on related topics.

It’s helpful for both readers and bots to let them know where you have related content about a topic because it will enable them to explore different aspects of their search query and develop their knowledge of what you do.

Using relevant and related keywords within these links will further add weight to these topics and help users and search engines understand how the content on your website ties together and provides sources and citations for an external reference.

We recommend:

Reviewing your pages, products and blog posts and look for content that overlaps. Is there a shoe that goes with that dress that you could link together or an article that touches on a beauty service that you provide that you can promote in that article and link though too?
